Year 3 NAPLAN reading practice
Year 3 reading is the first time many children meet a text they cannot finish in one glance. The trick is not speed but going back: the answer is almost always somewhere in the passage, and the question is usually pointing at it.
What the section covers
- Finding information
- Locating a detail that is stated directly, sometimes in a table or a caption rather than the paragraphs.
- Working things out
- Answers the text implies but never says — why a character acted, what happened between two paragraphs.
- Purpose and audience
- Deciding why a text was written and who it was written for.
- Comparing texts
- Holding two texts side by side and noticing where they agree, differ or contradict.
